The Potlatch Corporation recently conducted a chain wide sales contest with the Vons Cos., the largest supermarket chain (325 stores) in Southern California. Using "Vacation Getaway" certificates as prizes, Vons' first "Checkstand Selling" event awarded checker associates who sold the most Pavilions Select Premium Corporate Brand paper products.

Vons Paper Sale a Big Hit Across the Chain
Across the Company, the Select paper sale was a smashing success, as associates had the opportunity to show their creativity and imagination by crafting a plethora of "clothing" made entirely of Pavilions Select paper products!
Along with eye-catching displays and maximum merchandising efforts, the accessories created and worn by associates helped to push paper sales to staggering heights over a four-day period; paper sales jumped 200 percent! While customers had the opportunity to pick up Pavilions Select products at great prices, the sale also proved to be a lot of fun for everyone involved.
This "Event" garnered coverage in Supermarket News and top support from senior management at Vons Cos. The reciprocal effect has been increased awareness by consumers and added promotional support by the procurement staff. We will do a follow-up event with Vons Cos. in 1997 as well as other chains in Southern California. Thank you for being a part of a successful event.
